Many claim to be pure 100% essential oils and they actually are not. They have had fragrances added, carrier oils added etc. It is hard to find an oil that has not been adulterated. If they have been dual processed they are not pure essential oils. If the process is not traceable from planting to processing they are not 100%. A pure oil will carry a certification with regards to this. When processing oils, there are a number of ways that oils are produced: steam distillation, water distillation, cold compress, solvent distillation, hydrosols, infusions, and more. Applications of oils can be done in a number of ways including: neat or applied directly to the skin, in lotions and creams, as a hydrosol, as an infusion, as an inhalation, as a misting, and as diffuse. Essential oils are a chemical compound of the plant material that is processed and made into oil holding the integrity of the plant. There is chemistry to them. It is important to learn what the chemistry is within those oils so that when you decide to use oil you will know that you will not burn the skin or irritate the respiratory system. A phenol will burn so be aware of these types of things. If you place oil on and it burns remember to turn off an oil use an oil base such as jojoba.
